Single Mother Struggle With Children After Husband's Death

My name is Finda Fayiah. I’m a 30-year-old mother with five kids living in the small West African nation of Liberia. My touching story reminisces the daily tragedy that befalls many like myself across Sub-Saharan Africa. My husband has been the sole breadwinner of the family. Daily, he leaves his makeshift home to engage in sand-minding along the Du River in Margibi County in Liberia. He does this to fend for his family in a largely impoverished country, and his daily wage of $300 LD is equivalent to less than USD 2.00.

My husband left one morning of a daily paid job but never returned. I later realized in my quest to find my husband’s slippers he had worn when he left the house were found near the site where he had gone to do a daily hustle for the survival of his family. While he was minding the sand, the sand fell on him and we didn’t know. I am reaching out to the world to help my children with their education.
